FDA Panel Supports Limits to Testosterone Use

On September 17, 2014, an FDA panel of experts voted to limit the use of testosterone to only men with serious medical issues, in light of concern that the drug is currently being prescribed for many non-serious issues.

One in 25 men in the United States over 60 is now using testosterone, including many men over 40 who take it to improve low energy and libido. However, recent medical studies have questioned the safety of the supplement, as use has been linked to serious side effects such as stroke, heart attack and death.

The restrictions, if adopted by the FDA, would limit the marketing of the drug by the drug companies and reduce the number of users.

If you are or a family member is currently taking testosterone you should talk with your physician about any concerns you may have.
